Katie Cannon
Spain, Europe
I grew up as a missionary kid in Mexico and Spain. After graduating from James Madison University, I moved to Jakarta, Indonesia where I served as the Community Development Coordinator and then Missions Pastor for the IES Jakarta for eight years. While in Indonesia I had the opportunity to develop a health education program in two slum communities, oversee sixteen community partners, and engage approximately 500 volunteers a year in outreach projects. In 2021, I began to feel God stirring my heart that it was time to move. Shortly thereafter the doors opened for me to transition to Europe and use the community development principles I learned in Indonesia to build an Oasis Center in Barcelona, Spain.
Why Barcelona?
Though you may first think of cathedrals and Gothic architecture, Barcelona has one of the highest North African immigrant populations in all of Europe. Much of the population lives in the one particular diverse neighborhood in the heart of the city. Through language classes, after school homework help, women’s and men’s groups, Oasis Center Barcelona will serve as a bridge to a population completely unengaged with the gospel.
What will I be doing?
I will partner with the International Church of Barcelona (ICB) and Oasis Center Madrid to open an Oasis Center in el Raval, an immigrant neighborhood in the heart of Barcelona, Spain.
